A New Baby
Chinese Mother Goose Rhymes. Isaac Taylor Headland. 1900.
A gilt-wood mace,
And silvered things,
My grandfather plays,
And grandmother sings;
My grandmother sings till broad daylight,
And a baby comes to our home at night;
They place the child by the pot on the ground,
And it eats rice soup with a sucking sound.
